Spanish 2

Course Description

Course Description:

The Spanish II course at Metro Arts aims to develop the already existing knowledge of the students about the hispanophone world via cultural and linguistic immersion. Engaging a variety of evaluation methods to cater to different learning styles, students can expect to receive assignments thoughtfully designed to develop their speech, reading, writing and listening proficiency. We will primarily be working from Pearson’s Realidades II, published in 2014. Students will participate in discussions, writing assignments, interpretive listening assignments, cross cultural analysis and exploration as we piece together more complicated grammar, reading, speaking and pronunciation to further build the identity of being a Spanish speaker. Most (80% - 90%) of the class will be taught in Spanish. This is non-negotiable and a part of the process for second language acquisition. It is expected that students will communicate in Spanish with the teacher for basic needs such as using the bathroom, getting water, going to the office, needing a pencil or paper, asking for an assignment due date, etc. Slowly but surely, the students will elevate their vocabulary and understanding of grammar to be able to have more spontaneous, dynamic and fluid conversation by the end of the year.
