Spanish 1
Course Description
Course Description:
The Spanish I course at Metro Arts aims to inculcate students into the hispanophone world via cultural and linguistic immersion. Engaging a variety of evaluation methods to cater to different learning styles, students can expect to receive assignments thoughtfully designed to develop their speech, reading, writing and listening proficiency. We will primarily be working from Pearson’s Realidades I, published in 2014. Students will participate in discussions, writing assignments, interpretive listening assignments, cross cultural analysis and exploration as we piece together grammar, reading, speaking and pronunciation to take on the identity of a Spanish speaker. Just over half of the class will be taught in Spanish (40% to 75%). This is non-negotiable and a part of the natural process for second language acquisition. It is expected that students will communicate in Spanish with the teacher and each other as much as possible. By the end of the year the students will elevate their vocabulary and understanding of grammar to be able to have short travel-friendly conversation.
