Description

This class aims to enhance each student’s foundation in the Spanish language and to attain a deeper understanding of the Hispanic/Latino culture through engagement, activities, speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Students will be able to communicate and understand the language for a variety of purposes, acquire a more advanced vocabulary and grammar in the subject matter and skills that will allow them to make connections between their everyday lives and that of others. A key to their acquisition of the language will be through cultural sensitivity, awareness and appreciation of the local and international Hispanic/Latino populations through exposure, art, literature, historic events, and language. Additionally, our class has three mission statements:  mine, yours, and ours.

1st Semester Final Exam: Para Empezar, 1A, 1B and 2A
Students will tested on all material covered in the past semester. Material on the test will include but is not limited too the study guide that was handed out in class and is attached to this post.

Final Book Report
Students will present for 2-3 minutes (Spanish 2 in Spanish) about their chosen Spanish picture book. Students will present their project on a poster board containing all of their written materials (listed on the assignment sheet) and displaying their creative art piece. Requirements for the presentation and the project are posted below and were handed out during class.

Character Analysis
Students will turn in a character analysis of the characters in their chosen story book. Each character should be analyzed in a minimum of 60 words (minimum total 180 words). The project requirements are attached to this post and were handed out in class.

Creative Story Using Chapter 2A Vocabulary

Día De Los Muertos Celebration (10pts extra credit)
As a class we will be celebrating the Day of the Dead. It is a very significant and important holiday in Mexican culture and hope to understand a piece of that through the celebration in class. Each student is encouraged to bring in a picture of a loved one, a friend, a pet, or anyone that has passed and has had a significant impact on their life. In addition to the picture students are encouraged to bring in something that reminds them of that person or something to remember that person by. Many times in celebration of Dia De Los Muertos family and friends cook the favorite dish of the person and share it as a way of remembering and celebrating that person. That is a great example of something a student could bring in. Please nothing of high value just to make sure nothing is lost that can't be replaced.
