Seth Kasselman
Visual Arts/Mixed Media/Drawing/Printmaking/Contemporary Craft

Seth Kasselman grew up in Phoenix then moved to Los Angeles in 1997 to attend CalArts. After receiving his B.F.A. and spending 15 years as an active artist and gallery curator in Los Angeles, he moved back to his Phoenix home and immediately settled into the city’s downtown art scene. With an interest in painting, sculpture, and pen and ink, his work explores different aspects of mixed media, embracing nature and the ephemeral. When not teaching and making visual art, he also enjoys making music. He primarily plays the clarinet and modular synthesizers but is open to trying just about any new instrument. In addition to making music, he’s an obsessive record collector and can usually be found crate digging or sitting in front of a stereo in his spare time.

Why Metro?

The community. Metro gives its students the freedom to create in an atmosphere I haven’t found anywhere else in the valley. The students are amazing; they inspire me in ways I would never expect. They embrace each other’s differences instead building walls around them. There’s a lot that adults can learn from their open-mindedness right now. They applaud one another for taking risks as artists and it’s an environment I’m proud to be a part of.
