Metro Arts Staff summer plans 2018
Seth Kasselman & Stephanie Carrico, Visual Arts Teachers
Seth and Stephanie will be participating in a 5 day "Direct-to-Plate Photopolymer Gravure workshop" in Santa Fe, NM. This process incorporates both photography and printmaking techniques. A photograph is burned onto a plate which is then printed in the intaglio method using a printing press. They will be able to use this technique with students in future photography and printmaking classes. This is a safe etching process which eliminates the need for toxic chemicals and achieves the same results using the sun and water.
Nicole Olson, Dance Teacher
Nicole will be working with other dance professionals at the Dance in the Desert Festival 2018 in Las Vegas, NV. She will be taking classes from other professional teaching artists in order to study different dance techniques that she can bring back to share with the students at Metro Arts. She will also be presenting and performing her own choreography at the festival.
John Perovich, Theater & Film Teacher, Founder of the Now & Then Theater company
This summer John will be making the trek to the Last Frontier Theatre Conference in Valdez, Alaska. He will be presenting his new work "The Broken Age" in the Play Lab. According to the conference website, John will get to hear a group of actors read his play aloud in front of an audience. After the reading, a panel of respondents will discuss how they were affected by the play and then they will offer constructive criticism.
Sonia Payan, Visual Arts Teacher
Sonia will be taking an online class with Robert Kelley focussing on charcoal portraits. She will be studying the basic fundamentals of a well rendered portrait, including composition and design, relationships, perspective and mechanics.
