HOW TO ENROLL

Open Enrollment begins every year in September on the date of our first Drop-In School Tour and continues until the end of November. During this period siblings are given preference but must complete the entire application process by the last business day of November. If a space in the class the sibling is applying for is not available at the time of his or her completed application is turned in then the siblings will be placed at the front of the waiting list for that class on a first come first served basis. Sibling applications received after the last business day in November will be treated like all other applicants.

From December 1st onward every year all students are accepted on a first come first served basis with the date specific place in line determined by the day their application is complete.

Metro Arts is a college prep school and is designed for students who are serious about both academics and the arts. A demonstrated capacity for serious academics, arts, and good character are basic to Metro's mission and essential for success. Students uninterested or unwilling in living up to these requirements should seek enrollment elsewhere. Spaces in any given class for the next year at Metro Arts are usually filled by the end of April.

SPECIAL NOTES:

7th - 12th Grade Applicants
Metro Arts is a college preparatory school. We encourage all applicants to apply to enter at the grade level appropriate for their graduation year. Due to scheduling limitations and high admissions numbers Metro is usually unable to place students in courses other than those appropriate for their correct cohort year. Please note: We are not usually able to create a schedule for a students who have failed core academic classes and are therefore not part of their cohort year.

Students with a D grade in any core academic course will be tested to determine proper placement as part of the enrollment process, unless the student has retaken the course and received a grade of C or better. Please note: It is unlikely Metro will be able to create a viable schedule for a student who does not place into the courses that are expected to be taken with his or her cohort year.

The following Steps Outline the Application for
Admission Process and Acceptance

STEP 1
Attend one of our DROP-IN (no appointment necessary) group tours. See our HOME page for upcoming dates and times. You may hand in your completed initial application at the tour or anytime after taking the tour (Siblings of current students are welcome but not required to attend the tour).

STEP 2
Download the application for admission [HERE] as well as the Authorization of School Records Release Form [HERE]. Applications and the form can be found on our website or can be sent to you via email request (randi.at.metroarts@gmail.com) or picked up at the tour.

STEP 3
Fill out and submit the Application and the Authorization to release records form.

STEP 4
A letter confirming your application is complete and your date and grade specific position on the “waiting to enroll” list will be sent to you when ALL the required records have been received from your previous school. These records include:

Transcript
Birth Certificate
Immunization records
All Discipline Records (if any)
All Special Education & 504 Records (if any)
Hearing and Visions Records
Test Scores

SPECIAL NOTES:

1. It is the responsibility of the guardian/parent to make sure that we receive the all the required documents.

STEP 4A (for Junior High applicants)
The Director of the Junior High will contact you to set up an interview time and possible placement testing.

STEP 5
A confirmation of enrollment letter will be sent by the Admissions Director when a space becomes available in the grade level requested. On the letter will be a date by which you must confirm your enrollment and pay a $100 (non-refundable) deposit to cover art class costs (Financial Aid is available).

STEP 6
You will receive a phone call from the Director of Admissions to determine your student’s schedule (excluding Junior High Students who have a set schedule). We will make three attempts to contact you. After three failed attempts with no return contact you will be removed from the “waiting to enroll” list and your application placed at the the end of the appropriate wait-list.

STEP 7
An orientation packet and schedule will be sent to your home. New students are required to attend orientation with a parent or guardian in early June and pay the remainder of their arts class costs in order to secure their enrollment spot. New student’s who do not attend orientation (including siblings) will be removed from the enrolled list and their applications will become inactive. All final payments for class costs for new students must be paid by orientation day in mid June.

STEP 8
Attend the first day of school. Student’s who do not attend the first day of school will be removed from the enrolled list.

SPECIAL NOTES:

Metro Arts keeps a wait-list for each grade level until the first day of school. The wait-list letters are not created or sent out to applicants until mid May. On the first day of school the wait-list is no longer active. Wait-listed students still interested in attending Metro Arts must reapply after the first tour in September for the following year.

Sibling Policy: Metro Arts does gives preference to siblings during the open enrollment application process which ends on the last business day in November. Metro Arts does not give preference to the children of board members or employees.
