VISION STATEMENT
Ideally, art is the process of discovering the true self. In striving for skill, excellence, and truth, we can uncover the inspiration that lies in the creative process. In trusting the process we will discover that meaning is personal, and life is a work in progress.
The objective of a Metro Arts education is the creation and experience of meaning. Metro Arts will serve as the tool box for the artistic mind. Our purpose is to help students set goals, master techniques, and develop skills and self discipline.
Ultimately, success at Metro Arts is defined as the experience created through a productive, challenging, and tolerant community.
WHAT IS A CHARTER SCHOOL?
Charter Schools are a bold initiative in school reform established by Arizona legislation in 1994. Charter schools are designed to improve student achievement and offer educational choice in publicly funded schooling.
Charter schools are allowed to operate independently of some of the restrictions placed on traditional public schools. Schools that are approved by the Arizona State Charter Board sign a contract or charter with the board enabling the school to receive public funds.
In exchange for increased freedom in operations and curriculum, charter schools have an increased level of accountability in student achievement.
Charter Schools are an increasing national trend. Over half of the States have passed charter legislation.
Hundreds of charter schools have opened nationwide. Arizona currently has the strongest charter legislation with more than 500 charter schools in operation.
METRO ARTS VISUAL ARTS DEPARTMENT
The Metro Arts Visual Arts department offers a wide variety of art disciplines. Students have opportunities to present their work in the Arizona art community. Student work has been showcased at Art One Gallery, the Phoenix Arts Museum, the Herberger Theater, the Civic Center Arts Project and many other art galleries in downtown Phoenix. The Metro Arts Gallery participates four times annually in the monthly Phoenix downtown First Friday's Art Walk where students also exhibit their work.
Metro graduates attend many arts colleges and universities including the Chicago Arts Institute, the California Institute for the Arts, the San Francisco Art Institute, and Savannah College for the Arts. The Metro Arts Visual Arts faculty are all working artists from the Arizona Art Community.
METRO ARTS PERFORMING and LITERARY ARTS DEPARTMENTS
The Metro Arts Performing and Literary Arts department offer multiple after school opportunities in dance, theatre music, and creative writing.
